Ten Steps to a happy life

Ten steps to a happier life and maybe financial independence.

Due to the fact I am feeling negative today this post was going to be called 10 steps to ruin your life, it had quite good commedy value (made me laugh anyway) but then it occured no ones going to be searching for ways to ruin their life so I've put a positive spin on it for you.

Some of this info I've learned from doing interviews and studying peoples blogs digging deep, some of it is stubsy life experience all of it is fact!

Happy life step One

Respect Money - The most important happy life ingredient (thats why its first) respect your money, people say money can't by happiness and their probably right but living without it is a lot worse than living with it.

Not saying you should be frugal or stingy with your cash just think before you splash it about and make loads.

Happy life step Two

Don't jump into things - Following on from number One really, think especially important if your going to get married or make any similar longterm commitments you should try before you buy (where possible).

Happy life step Three

Don't stay where your not happy - If you don't like something in your life change it but look to yourself to see what you need to change first, if you hate your job because your boss is a idiot sack him/her (might be a good idea to find another way to support yourself first though). If your partner is a big useless blob change em.

Repeating this bit again look to yourself to see what you need to change first - are you sure it's not you who is a useless blob/idiot?

Happy life step Four

Never rely on others - Don't rely on other people always make sure you have a way to take care of things yourself, not saying you should always take care of things yourself just have a plan to.

Happy life step Five

Don't be scared to follow your dreams - If you want to tavel the world or start your own business do it, make sure your commitments are taken care of first though. When starting a business try and get proper funding set up a limited company that means if it fails you won't lose any personal assets. Ask anyone who runs their own business or is self employed they will tell you they don't regret it.

Happy life step Six

Don't get into debt - Simple don't borrow money, if you have to borrow money buying a house for example get rid of it ASAP. If you pay your mortgage for the full 25 Years you'll pay out enough cash to buy 3 houses and expose yourself to relying on others like your idiot boss.

Happy life step Seven

Don't risk anything you can't afford to lose - Don't invest money you haven't got, don't risk relationships with your partner or family members.

Happy life step Eight

Research - Look into everything, never buy things on impulse or on the spot always take your time before making a decision and look at alternatives.

Happy life step Nine

Save - Save every spare penny, it'll make you feel secure and happy:)

Happy life step Ten

Subscribe to financial independence - What do you mean Why?

Summary to a happy life

Think don't jump into things, save don't borrow, do what you want as long as you plan it and you could try exercise becuase it meant to release happy chemicals.

One thing is certain, people need to smile more :)

bhaque:

Glad you liked it keeping money in a safe but difficult to get to place definetly a good idea

Paul:

This is an excellent post. The most I was able to accomplish was put down a hefty down payment on our first home - and I don't regret it one bit. Housing is so insanely expensive that unless you're in the top 1%, you probably won't be able to buy one straight away IMO.

I also agree with saving every penny. It's so easy to spend money when it is 'burning a hole' in my wallet - so I keep my cash in a secret spot. It's rather difficult to get to, so impulse buys are near impossible. This works like a charm :).

Don't we all wish we could buy a house without debt?

Well it would be possible would it if you saved for 10 or 15 years in that time of course house prices could have risen and you'd need even more.

David Mackey:

I wish I could pay for a house w/out debt. :-)

bhaque:

Your right, if you blame other people and then just move on you'll get into the same situation again and again because the problem will really be you.
Look to your self first, sometimes people take advantage of that though:(

Sandra:

I agree that you have to look first how YOU can change a situation yourself. A lot of people complain, but never do anything to change the situation they are complaining about. Life is short, it's better to regret the things you did do, than to regret the things you didn't do!
